About Us

Big Care for Small Jobs

Dakota Small Jobs was started with a simple idea: homeowners and property managers deserve dependable, professional help — even for the small stuff. What began as one guy, a truck, and a long list of people needing help has grown into a trusted local company serving Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities. We specialize in the jobs that often get ignored, delayed, or overcharged — and we do them with care, professionalism, and the utmost respect for your home.

Our Story

Built to Fill a Gap That Mattered

Founded by Jon Sanders — a firefighter, pastor, and entrepreneur — Dakota Small Jobs was born from a simple frustration he heard everywhere he went: “I can’t find anyone who will actually show up for the small jobs.”

What started as nights and weekends quickly became a full-time operation. Today, Dakota Small Jobs is a team of skilled technicians and a professional office staff serving hundreds of customers every year — all built around trust, craftsmanship, and genuine care.

What We Believe

Why We Exist

Small Jobs Matter

We treat every task — no matter how minor — with the same care and professionalism as any major project.

Homes Deserve Care

Your home is your most important space. We enter it with respect and leave it better than we found it.

People Deserve Honesty

Transparent pricing, clear communication, and no surprises. Honesty isn’t a bonus — it’s our baseline.

Trades Should Be Professional

We’ve built systems, training, and a team culture that raises the bar for what a handyman company can be.

The Team

Meet the Dakota Small Jobs Team

Real people. Real skills. Real pride in their work.

Jon Sanders

Owner | Founder

Jon Sanders founded Dakota Small Jobs from a simple desire to help people solve problems and feel taken care of in their own homes. What he enjoys most isn’t just fixing things — it’s serving people well and building teams that take pride in their work.

While he still enjoys getting his hands dirty on the occasional demolition project, Jon’s greatest passion is working with people and creating a culture where professionalism, integrity, and care come first.

Outside of work, Jon loves racquetball, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and traveling whenever he can. A loyal Minnesota Vikings fan, he recharges with quiet early mornings, a good book, and a cup of coffee.

“Quality matters. The cheapest option is rarely the best one — and investing in true professionals is almost always worth it in the long run.”

James Sanders

Project Manager

James Sanders serves as Project Manager at Dakota Small Jobs, where he ensures projects run smoothly and customers are well taken care of. He enjoys the flexibility of the work and being part of a team that genuinely supports one another.

James is especially skilled in finish carpentry and takes pride in the details that turn a good job into a great one. Outside of work, he loves spending time with his wife and getting outdoors whenever possible. Fun fact: he has a deep knowledge of World War II history — just ask him sometime.

“Don’t put off projects that can cause more damage the longer they sit.”

Marshall Hubers

Handyman Technician

Marshall Hubers brings a wide range of hands-on skills to the team and loves the variety that comes with every job. He’s especially confident in LVP flooring, framing, trim work, siding, doors, and drywall — installation, mudding, and taping included.

Outside of work, Marshall enjoys building and fixing things with friends, riding four-wheelers and snowmobiles, woodworking, and getting out in nature to unwind. Fun fact: Marshall earned his carpentry college diploma at just 17 years old.

“Caring for your home — whether through cleaning, maintenance, or knowing when to call a professional — will never backfire on you.”

Jeremiah Farris

Handyman Technician

Jeremiah Farris enjoys the variety of tasks and challenges that make every day at DSJ different. He’s especially confident in finish carpentry and takes real pride in doing clean, detailed work that makes a home feel complete again.

Outside of work, Jeremiah stays busy with pinstriping, personal car projects, skateboarding, and spending time with his family. When it’s time to slow down, he loves camping and fishing. Fun fact: Jeremiah has been married to his high school sweetheart since 2016.

“Don’t put off small repairs — little issues can quickly turn into big problems if left unfinished.”

Krista Waldner

Office Manager

Krista Waldner keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes at Dakota Small Jobs. From building quotes to sending invoices, she’s most at home making sure the office side of the business is organized and efficient.

What Krista enjoys most about working at DSJ is the positive team culture — everyone shows up with a good attitude and works well together. Outside of work, she loves staying active, spending time with family and friends, and traveling whenever she can. Fun fact: Krista speaks another language, thanks to growing up in a Hutterite colony.

“Use a dehumidifier during the summer to protect your home — it’s a simple habit that makes a real difference.”
